This government regulation makes provision for religious education in Indonesia. It states that the function of religious education is to make an Indonesian people who believe, and are mindful of, one almighty God (Tuhan Yang Maha Esa), while also being a noble and peacemaking inter-religious people (art 2(1)). The regulation also requires all educational institutes, regardless of stream, level, or type of education, to administer religious education (art 3(1)), in accordance with the National Education Standards (art 5(1)).
